Additions and improvements for Paid Feature

  • Nov. 12th, 2009 at 2:11 PM
We've made some additions and improvements to Notes!

The Notes feature has been added to two action-taking pages:
  • You can now add a Note directly on the Add a friend page - handy if you'd like to mark down where you met them or another name you know them by!
  • On the Ban and unban users page (under Account -> Privacy) you can now add a Note, including to a group of users all banned at the same time (so that next year you won't need to ask yourself "hey, why did I ban these guys?")

Other changes:
  • When you're viewing your existing Notes they're grayed out; click in a field to activate it to change the text (this page can be found from the header by using Profile -> Manage Notes)
  • Changes to editing:
    • When you're going to create a new Note but one already exists, you'll get a warning that you're editing an existing Note
    • You can now delete a note from the "Edit note" pop-up in the hover menu
    • You can now delete notes for multiple selected users on the Manage notes page
    • When you change Notes on "Ban|unban users" page, they can be edited and saved with "Save Changes" button

Notes augmented

We've enhanced and de-bugged Notes. If you haven't tried it yet, now's the time! You can create a private note when you ban multiple users. You can also delete multiple notes at once. Lastly, paid users have the option to add a note (visible only to you) whenever you add or remove a friend (guaranteed to avoid embarrassing social mishaps). If you don't currently have a paid account, you can upgrade now! It only takes a few minutes and costs less than a bad shopping mall haircut (plus, it's way more fashionable)!

Product tweaks and bug kill

  1. In another effort to zap spam, comments containing links from domains LiveJournal deems untrustworthy are now automatically screened
  2. If you sign up to get notifications of the Writer's Block question of the day, you'll now see the daily question in the email notification, so you'll have a little extra time to ponder before you post. You can subscribe to Writers Block notifications here
  3. The issue causing random comments to vanish has been fixed!
  4. If you visit a LiveJournal page and get prompted to log in, you'll be returned to the same page after you sign in (Thanks, Dreamwidth)!
  5. If you don't edit the timestamp for an entry at all, the entry timestamp will indicate the time the entry was posted instead of the time the Update Journal page was loaded
  6. Comments with paddings/backgrounds render correctly within the comment box (and will no longer wrap outside the box and break frames/margins)

New FCK fixes rich text editor!

  1. We've updated our RTE (Rich Text Editor) to FCKeditor version 2.6.5
  2. When switching from the RTE to HTML editor, links for syndicated feeds are no longer broken
  3. RTE now functions properly in Safari 4.0
  4. An extra line/space will not be auto-inserted whenever you switch from RTE to HTML editor
  5. The insert image link now works correctly in all browsers

LiveJournal Cares

We’re pleased to introduce you to [info]lj_cares, a new LiveJournal community dedicated to raising awareness and funds for U.S. charitable organizations that improve the health and well-being of people around the world. Each month, we’ll spotlight a nonprofit that is making a significant global impact through medical research, public outreach, and/or humanitarian social programs. Charities will be selected in accordance with the U.S. calendar of national health observances based on a high rating (of over 60%) on Charity Navigator and global scope of impact.

In this, our inaugural month of November, we will celebrate national adoption month by offering a charitable virtual gift (priced at $2.99) to support Love Without Boundaries, an organization that saves the lives of orphans with life-threatening diseases and places them in loving homes around the world. LiveJournal will donate 100% of the proceeds from the sale of charitable vgifts (we'll cover the cost of credit card transaction fees). To learn more about Love Without Boundaries, please visit [info]lj_cares and read about how they helped save Baby Kang and the Rainbow Twins from fatal illnesses, who are now thriving in nurturing families. You can purchase your Love Without Boundaries gifts in the Virtual Gift shop.

Cockroaches!

  • Nov. 12th, 2009 at 11:57 PM
Cockroaches!
I killed my first Japanese cockroach today. It was very small (1cm long) and when I flattened it with a notebook it only emitted a minimal amount of cockroach juice. Three years in Japan roach-free, and within a month of moving to this apartment I get cockroaches. As the only difference in my life is the old building and the tatami room, I think I can be pretty sure the tatami is causing this. *snarls at Japanese people and their inexplicable love of tatami* If there was an inexpensive way to coat the tatami and seal it over, I would do it. I am so glad I do not believe in futons on the floor--I would refuse to sleep in this room if I didn't have a raised mattress.

Anyway, tomorrow I am buying roach motels. Thank goodness I have good living habits; I think I can be pretty sure the cockroaches won't get into the food, but the sheer fact that they are in my room (dear lord *shudder*) is going to give me nightmares.

Dear Pirate-Haters
An open letter to those terrified of e-piracy. Via [info]ramble_corner. I think I'm going to go Cory Doctorow's way and just offer things on the internet for free. With luck, people will pay me for other things. *shrugs* Which means, of course, I will never be able to quit my day job, but I was never really the sort of person one would say could write every day, anyway.

Book-Shopping
I have a list of books that I actually want hardcover copies of (even though I already own the e-book versions, and in both cases paid legal money.) These books are that useful. I also want to buy college textbooks on a few subjects, but that can wait...

To The People With Computer Problems On My F-list
Just a publiic service announcement: If I don't reply to any post where you say you have computer problems, feel free to e-mail me and draw my attention to them. Being too busy to check my f-list does not mean being too busy to help with computer problems. ♥ ETA: Of course, you could just ignore this part of this post, especially if you think I'm an idiot and don't know what I'm talking about, but I'm just saying, I'm a resource and here if you need me.

Episode 335: Further Progress Through Level 1 Entry Corridor

To enhance the atmosphere of an exploration scene in a game, the GM should be careful never to describe anything that the characters couldn't notice with their normal senses. There may be secret doors, or rats under the floorboards, or giant spiders lurking in the dark corners, but if the players aren't poking around in those areas, they shouldn't notice them.

To further improve the experience, make sure you don't describe anything the players don't specifically say they are looking for. To illustrate:

Player: What do I see?
GM: A room.
Player: Is there a treasure chest?
GM: You don't see any.
Player: A cupboard?
GM: Not that you can see.
Player: Do I see a wardrobe?
GM: Nope.
Player: So there's nothing in here.
GM: I didn't say that.

daily dash

  • Nov. 12th, 2009 at 1:08 PM
3 miles, 39 minutes 13min/mile

HR 150/165

procrastination: an hour, which is impressive when you realize I was going with someone else.

days since last exercise: 2 - one planned day off

3 miles, up from 2.5, yay! And my shins behaved themselves, though I seem to be going slower over time rather than faster, and my HR keeps getting lower. I'm not sure what my deal is. When I was spinning, I'd go as hard as I could, until I felt I physically had to slow down, and yet I didn't break 165. What is going on?

sneaker count: 22 miles

I'm sorry, I know all I've been posting about is exercise - not much is going on in my life. I'll try to come up with something more interesting soon.

Characters/Pairings: Percy/Annabeth, with appearances from the rest of the cast and the gods.
Summary: Three possible wedding scenarios for Percy and Annabeth, and the one way they actually got married. Percy/Annabeth fluff.
Notes: I blame icy roses for this. We were discussing the future of Percy and Annabeth over chat and ended up deciding that it would be completely impossible for them to have a normal wedding. The result was this fic. I wanted to write something fun before my NaNo project got too dark, so I used up the of my cushion to write this for the day instead. Enjoy!

“Oh, I just love weddings!” Aphrodite exclaims, bursting into joyous sobs and burying her face in her program. )
